Unplug the appliance and remove the old cord, typically attached inside the appliance with screws, clips or solder.

Feed the cord's wires into the new plug, and tie a knot in the wires to ensure that pulling on the cord in use will not pull the wires from the plug terminals.

Insert 1/4 in. of the tip of wire into the corresponding hole in the jaws of an electrical wire stripper tool.

Close the tool to cut and remove insulation from the end of the wire. Verify that the insulation is cleanly cut and removed from the wire. If not, repeat the process using a larger or smaller gauge hole in the stripper tool.

Reassemble the appliance and test it with a multimeter or continuity tester to make sure it works before plugging it in.
